Free Legal Services

We provide free legal advice and casework in a range of areas by appointment only. Our in-house lawyers prioritise people who are at risk of, or affected by, violence. Volunteer solicitors assist with civil, traffic and minor criminal matters.

As a small community service with limited capacity, we prioritise assisting people experiencing disadvantage. If we can’t help, we will do our best to refer you to a service that can.

Areas of Law We Assist With

Family Law & Domestic and Family Violence

  • Apprehended Violence Orders (AVOs)
  • Family law (parenting, property and related issues)
  • Domestic and family violence, including sexual assault matters
  • Victims compensation claims

Civil Law

  • Credit and debt matters
  • Wills, powers of attorney and guardianship advice (please note: we do not draft these documents)
  • Discrimination
  • Consumer rights (buying goods and services)
  • Employment law

Criminal Law

  • Minor traffic or criminal offences (where you are not eligible for legal aid)
  • Fines

We do not provide legal advice on:

  • Neighbourhood disputes
  • Conveyancing
  • Commercial law
  • Taxation law
  • Immigration matters

We provide legal assistance at the following locations:

Orange

  • Orange Lifeline Office - Every Tuesday - Phone: (02) 4704 0211

Bathurst

  • Bathurst Neighbourhood Centre - One Thursday per month - Phone: (02) 6332 4866
  • Kelso Community Centre (Wahluu Health) - Thursday once a fortnight - dropin or phone 4704 0211 to book. 

Lithgow

  • Lithgow Community Projects - Every Thursday - Phone: (02) 6351 2230

Our solicitors also attend Katoomba, Lithgow, Bathurst, and Orange Local Courts on Apprehended Domestic Violence Order (ADVO) list days each week - no appointment is needed to see the duty lawyer on these days.
