Current Projects

An important function of Community Legal Centres is to identify how laws and policies impact on people living in social and economic disadvantage and to advocate for reform in those areas.

Law Reform

We are well equipped to identify law reform and policy issues, particularly those affecting rural, regional and remote areas, through our work in local communities. Some recent examples of law reform activities we have undertaken include:

  • Submission to the NSW Law Reform Commission's inquiry into consent in relation to sexual offences (2019)
  • Submission to the Dept of Justice on Justice for Everyday Problems: Civil Justice in NSW (2017)
  • Submission to the NSW Sentencing Council review of Victims' Involvement in Sentencing (2017)
  • Submission in response to the Issues paper: Review of NSW Victims' Compensation Scheme (2012)
  • Submission to NSW Attorney-General’s Department Review of Crimes (Domestic and Personal Violence) Act 2007 (NSW), (2011).
  • Submission on the review of the Victims Support and Rehabilitation Act 1996 (NSW) (2009)
  • Participation in the NSW Domestic and Family Violence Strategic Framework Consultations (2009)
  • Submission to the Australian Law Reform Commission (ALRC) inquiry into Family Violence Reform (2009)

We also meet with and makes representations to local members of Parliament to discuss and advocate for improvements to policy and legislation.
